New publication! Log Jam, now up at The Bohemyth

I’m so excited to announce that my short story Log Jam has been published by a lovely journal called The Bohemyth. This piece, about the often inexplicable nature of depression, is very dear to me and was in submission for a long time, so I’m deeply thankful it found a home. It would mean the world to me if you read it.

  1. So happy for you, Noel! This piece deserved to find a home. The characters are so real, the woman’s face collapsing into sobs, people trying their level best to ignore it. The compassionate lady who steps in, knowing exactly what to do and what not to do, how she is able to read the main character and reach out to her. Society expects us to put a brave face on our feelings, bottle them up. That should change. Maybe stories like this will give some insight to those who want to help but don’t know what to say or do. 🙂

    • Thank you very much Joan! I agree, I wish we had more freedom to express our emotions in this society, and I wish we were more comfortable witnessing it in others. Being able to more easily reach out to others would make us all a lot less lonely. ❤

  2. “She doesn’t pry for reasons. She doesn’t soothe it away, hush it down. She doesn’t try to fix it, to stop it, to judge it, to hide it. She just lets it. Lets it. Lets it.”

    LOVE this.

Really enjoyed your story, and happy it found a home!

  3. Noel, I just read this piece and it is beautiful. Your use of imagery is so incredibly strong and so evocative (the idea of the colander, the sculptor scrunching up the ball of clay), it draws the most beautiful picture for the reader. I can completely understand why you were so thrilled to get it published, and I’m so glad for every reader who has the chance to read it: it is so powerful and so stunning. Thank you for sharing it with us and congratulations on getting it published: that triumph is so well-deserved. ❤
