100k!

100k

Look at that shiny, glorious number! Can’t you just see the heavenly light rays bursting between its digits? And nope, there’s nothing wrong with your Spotify – that IS a chorus of angels singing “Hallelujah” through this picture. (I hired them to do that and they’d like a tip, so…)

My WIP hit that milestone a few days ago. The book was actually supposed to end at 90k, but – oops – I underestimated in my projections, and there’s still a chunk of story left. But I’m in the ending section! Woo!

I’m glad, actually, that I didn’t foresee the story being 100-plus, because I think that would have demoralized me back when I was making these calculations. At 60k I figured I was at the two-thirds mark, and it revved me up to think I only had another 30k to go. It inspired me to really hit the gas on my writing and blaze through. But if I’d been at 60k and thought I needed that whole number all over again, I think my engine would have sputtered out, and – okay that’s enough car metaphors for one post, I don’t even like cars.

The story would have been finished long before now if I hadn’t hit a block a few months ago. This year so far has been a wheezy, whimpery one in terms of writing. I hit a plothole and didn’t know how to proceed, so I took a couple months off to let my brain stew. When I finally figured things out, my output was still only trickly because the plot had gotten complicated – I kept having to stop and figure out what went where. Oy vey.

But now I’m determined! It’s time this thing be done. So I decided: By JULY FIRST my second novel will be complete! I will write every single weekday to make sure this happens. I WILL RISE VICTORIOUS OVER MY MANUSCRIPT!

Now if you’ll excuse me, time to go write!

  1. Congratulations! 🙂
I look forward to reading it one day soon. If the standard of your creative fiction is a mirror of your blog, I don’t doubt it’ll be exceptionally well received.

July 1st… I’ve marked that date, and will beat you within an inch of your talent if you miss that deadline! 😛

  2. Superb! How exciting! As always your humour, determination and all-round enthusiasm shines through and I have no doubt the story will be as epic as the effort 🙂 Genuinely – seeing this kind of achievement inspires me to work harder, so thanks for unwittingly ruining my social life, gaming ability and general logging of procrastination time 😉

    • Haha! Glad to be of service. 😉 Hehe. Thanks so much for the encouragement. I’ve been working on this book on and off for 3 years, and after a lot of struggle in 2014, 2015 was when I kicked it into high gear (dang it, another car metaphor!) and resolved to finish. So I’m very excited too, to say the least. 🙂

      • We have the same deadline, though I’m more than certain, I won’t meet mine. Just like to give myself deadlines to make me feel more writery. Well down on the progress, as usual you’ve excelled at making the rest of us look like lazy pretenders, or atleast just me anyway.

      • Ha, NO. This year has not been a productive one at all. I’ve only written 10k since January – that’s only slightly more than 1k a month!! 100k seems like a lot but it’s taken me 3 years to get there.
